Customer Reviews:

Being Recontinued5
I just talked to Ralph Lauren.com, they said that they are in the process of bringing back this fragrance in limited quantities. Of course, they will only be selling it on their site (and of course at full price). The CSR said that any Safari fragance you can buy on other sites right now is at least 4-5 years old because they have not manufactured it in that long. She said the shelf life is a max of two years if kept in a cool dark room, so when you buy elsewhere you are getting an “aged” perfume. Just FYI.

Safari by Ralph Lauren for Women5
This is the only scent I have used for over 15 years. I constantly get compliments on “how good you smell!!”. I have had men follow me to ask me what I am wearing so they can buy it for their wives. I love this scent!!

Absolutely perfect for me!5
I agree with the previous reviewer. I have worn Safari since it was introduced and I love it. It’s true, people ask me all the time what perfume I’m wearing. I can’t believe the price! Whenever I only have one bottle left in my linen closet stash, I get a little panicky …so I stocked up!

Overall, I love it!4
Initial review (10/09/2009), will update in the coming days:

Overall, I love it! Below are a few things I found while installing the unit:

My current entertainment center could not accommodate the changer due to its extremely large size. The width of the unit is pretty standard for a component; however, the height is 9.5 inches and almost 22 inches deep. My entertainment center does not have adjustable shelving, therefore the changer will not fit, and I will have to purchase a new shelving unit (bummer, but not a show stopper).

Once connected to my HDTV and surround receiver, the unit was very easy to set up via the onscreen guide. Initial set up was pretty quick, loading discs was not.

Okay, on loading my collection of 283 discs, the player began “Loading Disc Information” from Gracenote via the Internet. ***YOU MUST CONNECT THIS UNIT TO THE INTERNET*** or you will be forced to manually type the information into the player. I bring this up as I previously stated that I loaded 283 discs, and all but 12 could not be found on Gracenote. Why is this important? Well, you must type it in manually…… via the remote!! Prior models of this changer had a computer keyboard input for this, however, this one does not. Not a huge deal if it’s only a few titles (it was like sending a text message a few years ago before QWERTY keyboards appeared on phones, for the letter “c” you have to hit the number 2 key three times, etc.) Actually, for 12 titles it was painful.

The player connected via the Internet to Gracenote for disc information. This process is time consuming so be patient. The “Loading Disc Information” portion for 283 discs took roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes. Once complete the changer will initially alphabetize your collection and place all the discs that it could not find at the top of each folder (e.g., Photo, Music or Video, etc.) This is where you have to type in the disc information.

Gracenote, hum, not so sure about this. Sort of strange results as I have both a DVD and Blu-ray version of a few movies and they are cataloged differently on the player. One example is “Young Frankenstein” one version is placed under “comedy” and the other under “horror”. Also, it appears random, however, Gracenote found the movie “Airplane” which is roughly 29 years old, but could not find or have record of “The Wizard of Oz” on Blu-ray. Also, on boxed sets, it found some but not all of the collection (e.g., “Family Guy” it found disc 1, 2 and 4, leaving disc 3 to be manually entered???)

On BD-Live, pretty cool. You will need a USB thumb drive of at least 1 GB. And, the drive slot is on the back of the unit. So I would recommend that you place the drive in first before you place this unit into a cabinet and connect all the cables, as once you get going and then decide you need it, it’s a bit cumbersome getting to the back of this unit (especially since it will be loaded with up to 400 discs, etc.)

On the rental slot, start loading your collection in slot number 2 as the “quick” rental slot is reserved for slot number 1. If you don’t plan on using this, which I don’t, then begin loading with slot 1. Actually, you can start loading disc wherever you want, just thought I would point that out.

Lastly, many of your DVD’s will be located under multiple folders (e.g., Photo’s and Video’s) as the disc may contain JPEG images, which will qualify them as photo’s, etc.

Well, I have only had the player now for roughly 27 hours and love it thus far. I will update this review if I experience any strange behavior or if something dramatically changes my opinion.

UPDATE 11/14/2009:

One month later, I still love it! There are reader comments and responses (below under comments) however, I thought I should make note that the player performed well with a power outage (I intentionally unplugged the unit to perform this test). This is extremely important if you have ever owned a prior Sony Megachanger as those units would not retain any data beyond at 6-8 hour period without electricity (I have personal experience regarding this and it was extremely painful.) This is a solid unit so far, and I promise to update this review and related comments should anything change. Stay tuned folks.

UPDATE 12/15/2009

Sony released a software update to the player today, December 15, 2009. I went from version 15.1.010 to version 15.4.013. The download and update was pretty smooth, and completed within 8 minutes. The screen on the unit will flash “Version Up 0/9″, where there are 9 updates to be performed, etc. The system took the longest at 7/9 at roughly 4 minutes, however, when competed, you should see “Finished” on the box and it will then turn off. I have no details of this update as of yet. The system found two DVD’s as NOT recognized (strange as they were there before), however, Gracenote found them and all is good. Best regards.

UPDATE 02/02/2010

Powered on the unit this evening and noticed I had 7 “unknown” discs (in various slots). Since I have not added any new discs in over a month, I was a bit concerned. Not sure what the problem/issue was, however, upon pressing the “load” button on the unit, the missing titles were restored from Gracenote. One positive note, the unit only scans the unknown discs to load, it does not attempt to reload the entire library. This is not a “show-stopper” for me, I still love this player!

Very nice BD changer5
It’s about time an affordable BD changer appeared on the market. Picture and sound quality are equal or better than the PS3 it replaced. Been testing with Planet Earth, and the output is amazing. Also tested the up-scaling using the extended ‘Return of the King’ DVD, it’s output was nearly good enough to keep me from buying the BD when (er. if) it appears.

Thank God for the new interface! It is much faster and easier to use than the old ‘Disk Explorer’ from the 300 and 400 disk Sony DVD changes.

The disk loading, and Gracenote, do need some improvement. If you just want to try the unit out after newly installing it, then start with only one disk. Because, every time you select the ‘Load All Disks’ option, it restarts from the beginning (disk 1), even if half of your collection was already stored.

The Gracenote had no info at all for about 1% of my collection. Another 2% had no picture jackets. And, perhaps the most annoying because of the number of times it happened, about 5% of my disks ended up with foreign language titles. You do have the option to over-ride this, which I did, and manually enter a title. Also there is the option to manually select different database entries – but all of the failed BD’s had only a single entry. The player did manage to save my manual edits even when the disk was ejected and reloaded.

Regrets, I Dont have them,..5
I bought the sony BDP-CX960 to accomodate my ever expanding DVD library that was eating up my shelving space, slowly and surely.
I only read the one review available from amazon when I bought it, and the specs from sony [...]web page.
Having owned multiple sony coponents over the years, I felt comfortable pulling the trigger on this 649 dollars baby.

I briefly read through the manual some before setting it up. I have connected to a pioneer VSX-1019 receiver via the BD HDMI input, outputing to a samsung 58 inches 1080p PN58B650 Plasma TV. the speakers are 4 Polk audio m70’s for front and polk cs2 cc speaker and Polk M-60 for saurround rear with 2 Polk audio PSW505 subwoofers,..

All I can say is WOW, WOW,…

THE SONY DBP-CX960 SETUP MENU was very easy and intuitive, smoothly guided me through the all set up, from choosing audio, to picture quality to upscale, etc,.. all were easy and straightforward.

Now came loading the BD and DVD discs. After connecting the RJ45 in the back to my network, I loaded about 100 DVD and BD discs.

Via remote I instructed the machine to load all disc informations, which it does by connecting to gracenote, web site that downloads the discs informations and displays the jackets for easy recognition, as well as genres, actors year, etc,..

well out of 100 disc I loaded, it recognized 100 discs and downloded all there info, some were older one from the mid 90’s,… no problem.
the process took somE time, so you bettEr get it started and get busy with another project. I did not time the process, but for the 100 disc I think it took about 1 h +/- 5-10 min.

The picture quality is amazing, and the sound could not be better.

Now i can sit in my favorite chair, flip through my DVD collection and not worry about loading the disc…that is what I was looking for.
No need to manually enter any information, wow,..it is about time somebody made good use of the internet in this business.

By the way you can do the same for audio cd and other media format.
It can connect to your computer via your network and displays picture, music and movies,.. not bad at all.

The list goes on and on,.. in a brief summary, the machine has lived up to my expectations so far, after one month of use, and has delivered what Sony has proclaimed. Great picture, excellent sound, HDMI connection, and others connections, and easy set up and operation.

If you are debating weather to spend the extra buck on this baby, and want to treat yourself for an early X=Mas gift, go ahead, take the plunge, the price keeps falling,.. it is in my opinion worth the price i paid for it.

Hope you’ll find this helpful

Kicker TCVT122 Sealed truck enclosure with one 12″ CompVT subwoofer

Great for a truck, not equally good for a sedan.3
I read many good reviews of this product from truck owners and I decided to buy it for my Mitsubishi Galant sedan. Although, I appreciate a bit of extra bass in my music (the reason I bought them), I am not one of those 2-sub 1000+ watt bass freaks. My idea was to get clean bass without compromising too much on trunk space. These fit nicely in the trunk due to their compact size. However, I think my old Sony 12″ subwoofer (non-shallow design) produced much cleaner and tighter bass than these shallow subs. My installer at Bestbuy (who is in this business for 15 years) simply said these sound like s*** after installing them. I kind of agreed with him.

I think they do produce a decent amount of oomph. But firstly there’s not enough bass coming thru when they are installed in your sedan’s trunk, and secondly whatever comes thru is not clean/tight enough. My key takeaway from this experience is that if you want to get one decent subwoofer in your sedan’s trunk, then don’t go for a shallow mount sub. Instead buy the Kicker L5s, Alpine Type-Rs, or the likes of that. They sound much better than these.

Water Tech5
I’ve been giving everything this 500 watt Kicker amp has now for about 4 months and it hasn’t fazed it. I love this sub, it doesn’t need much room and it slams, Jesus surely saves!

Customer Reviews:

Don’t cha wish you saved your $8?2
It’s Monday, January 4th. First day back at work. All day long I am mentally psyching myself up to workout because, let’s face it, if I loved working out I wouldn’t resort to buying a Pussycat Dolls (PCD) Workout DVD at 1:38 am in the morning on Amazon.com. I would be asleep and wake up to take a nice walk. But no. I hate exercise, but love dancing.

It’s 5 pm, I drive home, change into workout clothes, take the dog outside, and I put the DVD in.

The cheesy music starts and they show close-ups of the PCD girls and they’re all sex-ified. Lovely. This DVD is made for 14 year old boys. I am kind of standing there waiting for the darn intro to finish. Robin Antin is apparently the “creator” (or pimp, your call) of the PCD group and she’s going on and on about how great this video is. If you do it daily, you’ll look like them in no time!
During this intro all I can think about is 1 thing:

This was probably a waste of $8.

But, I am still optimistic, and I even have a water bottle nearby because clearly to look like them, you gotta work out HARD. Sweat, get sore, be outta breath.

The first part of the workout (a term they use loosely, you’ll see why) is set to their popular song “Don’t Cha”.

It starts off, and Robin is the one giving the instructions and it’s easy. If you can walk forward 3 steps and place your hand on your hips on step 4, you’ve got 1/4 of the darn routine down. If you can do so while trying to act sexy, you’ve got another 1/4 of it down.

I’m doing it, and I keep thinking to myself that I am not remotely sweaty. Not even out of breath. I look at my dog and he’s doing the routine because it’s that easy.

At this point I also realize that none of the girls look familiar and this is because it’s the PCD from the burlesque show and not PCD the um “singing” group (wink, wink). But this doesn’t bother me any, because they all look the same to me. Nicole, the lead “singer”, does come out during the 3rd routine to the song “Buttons” if that matters to you or your husband.

It takes about 15 minutes for Robin to teach you the routine, and during these 15 minutes she also mentions a bajillion times that once you do this DVD you’ll really start to see results and get better at the dances. Really? Seriously? If you did this DVD everyday you’d be BORED TO TEARS like another reviewer said. Finally, it’s time for you to perform the routine from start to finish. How long is the routine? Oh, roughly 30 seconds long. I’ll even summarize it for you:

Bow chicka bow wow.

Walk 3 steps, place hands on hips on 4. Shake your hips while doing so. Leave lips slightly open to look sexy.

Do a casual wave of the arm while “hot like me” is playing.

Bend down to the left and right, run your hands up your thighs, slap your butt cheeks once on each side. (yes, butt cheeks- make sure you slap both- no cheating! This is EXERCISE!)

Bend down again and on random beats pop your chest out- this will happen 3 times. Pop what your momma gave ya.

Do some random kickboxing like moves. If it helps, pretend your kicking your PCD DVD into the trash. It helps.

What to do now? The girls on the DVD are practicing their pole moves, I guess I’ll do that.

Oh wait, here we go AGAIN.

Walk 3 steps, place hands on hips on 4. Shake your hips while doing so. Leave lips slightly open to look sexy.

Do a casual wave of the arm while “hot like me” is playing.

I think you get the point. You do the “routine” about 5+ times during the song and in between each set you just freestyle some stripper moves hoping your husband/boyfriend/child doesn’t walk into the door to see you swinging your hair around while you’re in sweatpants.

Not being too impressed with the first routine, I did decide to move onto the next routine. Maybe they get progressively harder, I thought to myself.

Up next, burlesque. More stripper moves.

Robin starts off the segment by telling you to get a boa or a men’s tie. I don’t have a boa, and my hubby does have a lot of ties, but they’re zipper ties. Not gonna work. I finally found a suitable replacement…a pashmina.

The beautiful, magenta pashmina given to me by a friend/co-worker for Christmas. It is gorgeous.

The burlesque routine starts off and you hold the boa/pashmina over your head and move your hips from side-to-side. Then, you turn to the right and rub the pashmina over your chest and lift your leg up and rub it on your leg, too. Alright. You’re supposed to do all that in like 3 seconds. FAST. They look all hot doing it, and I almost broke the coffee table trying to do it fast and getting my foot caught in the pashmina.

And this next move nearly caused a HUGE problem.

You take the boa (or my pashmina, which is considerably larger/heavier than a boa) and you swing it to the left and right. It basically slaps down onto the floor and you snap it back up and repeat on the opposite side. I did this forgetting that there is an obstacle to all this.

It’s called a ceiling fan. The noise and movement my ceiling fan made when I whipped my pashmina up into it nearly made me shart myself. But after I consoled my dog, I went back to the routine. I decided to just not do the whipping/swinging of the pashmina, and I’d be good, right?

Negative.

After you rub the boa against your girls, your legs, whip it left and right without killing yourself or your animals, you’re supposed to turn to the left, slap the boa onto the floor so that it GOES BETWEEN YOUR LEGS and you grab it with one hand behind/near your butt so you can like rub it between your crotch and look all silly and sexy.

I watched the PCD do this, and I looked at my pashmina, and I want to say I called it quits.

But I didn’t.

I tried it once. JUST ONCE.

Okay, twice.

And I couldn’t grab it behind my butt fast enough because I am like, ya know, FAT. And my butt is FAT, too. And so are my arms. Ugh.

I whipped my pashmina onto the floor so that it went between my legs and it was just ewww. No way I was going to rub my pashmina into my nether regions like I am trying to hump it or something.

IT IS A PASHMINA.

The third routine is set to their song “Buttons” but the only button I pushed was stop on the DVD player. I have tried a ton of workout DVDs, and I have to say this was the most awful one. It’s not hard, you could cause bodily harm to humans/animals, and it’s a waste of $8. Well, more if you don’t have a boa and have to buy one.

Bottom line, don’t buy it.

Bottom line #2, don’t look at me funny when you see me wear my magenta pashmina.

Unleash your inner Pussycat Doll~3
So, this workout was fun and sexy so I gave it three stars; however, there were many drawbacks that prevent this from being a truly awesome workout. I’ll tell you some details of the workout and then explain what I saw as deficiencies.

Pussycat Dolls (PCD) Workout DVD is led by Robin Antin, the creator of the group. She is joined by Christina from the group, Girlicious, and 3 ladies from her burlesque show in Vegas. Nicole Scherzinger only shows up in the performance section of the Buttons routine. All of the participants look fabulous and if their physiques don’t inspire you to exercise- nothing will. They are trying a bit too hard to be sexy-but what do you expect from PCD.

The workout is split into 3 different 30-second dance routines: Don’t Cha, Burlesque and Buttons. Robin takes about 10-15 minutes to teach you each routine, and then there are 3-4 minute performances of each routine. During the performance sections you perform the short routines multiple times with some freestyle dancing in between.

Robin is used to teaching seasoned dancers and it shows- she does not break down moves that other instructors would. However, she performs each move multiple times so that you would have no problem learning it. The dances are not taken strictly from the PCD routines, but are modified so that most people would be able to pick them up quickly. A word of warning- this routine may not be appropriate to perform around children (ie, this is the only workout my boyfriend can’t wait for me to do). The women are very scantily clad and you will frequently be asked to grind it, pop it and slap your booty- among other maneuvers. The only equipment required to perform the routine is a feather boa, scarf or necktie for the Burlesque section.

Cons: The routines are very short at 30 seconds each, and not so difficult that you couldn’t learn them on the first try. This means that you could easily grow bored with this workout. Also it is annoying that Robin frequently repeats, “You should do this workout everyday” (if you did you would be bored to tears) or “We do this move in PCD all the time” (marketing- much?). Most importantly, if you are anything but a very beginner at exercise-the DVD will be too easy for you. I think that Robin should make the routines longer so that you get a better workout and stop trying to ride the PCD train for everything it’s worth.

a little cheesy but still fun!4
This was kinda of an impulse buy. I was looking for something that would help provide a good cardio workout at home for when I am too lazy to drive to the gym. I am a big fan of workout dvds and am relatively picky with what I put in my collection. I do like this dvd, but I have to say right at the start that it is a little cheesy. I get really annoyed by things like that but it wasn’t in excess so I got over it. I bought this at the same time as Julianne Hough’s new dvd, and while she is a much better instructor, Robin Antin does a pretty good job too. She isn’t as sweet as Julianne, but she does repeat the moves she teaches you enough times that you can pick it up pretty quickly and I have no prior dance experience at ALL! The breakdown of the moves is pretty good too, she doesn’t throw so many new things into each set that you forget what moves your doing. I think the reason why you get some cardio from this is because you are repeating the same sets of moves over and over again, with a short break inbetween. While this is great for practicing getting the moves down and mastering those, it could also get VERY repetative if this was in your dvd rotation more then a couple time a week. Robin says ‘you should do this everyday’ to some of the moves and while that may be true, it would get really boring to do so. I do like that in some places there is at least one girl in the background doing a slight modification and I find that nice when I either don’t know what I am doing or am too lazy to go all out on a workout. I don’t think I will use this as much as Julianne’s but it is still a good way to get a workout done at home. There are 3 dance routines on this dvd and a behind the scenes featurette.

To the Manor Born: The Complete Collection Silver Anniversary Edition Reviews

Re-release of great series5
This very witty BBC series of the 70s stars Penelope Keith (formerly of The Good Life aka Good Neighbors) and Peter Bowles (many many supporting dramatic roles). When rich from birth Audrey Fforbes-Hamilton (Keith) loses her husband, she learns that he left her completely penniless and is forced to auction off the family manor. The estate gets bought Richard Devere (Bowles) an eccentric millionaire in the food business. Moving into a small cottage on the estate, Audrey with help from her friend Marjorie and her butler spends the next few years doing everything her power to get her ancestral home and place in society back including falling in love with the new “Lord of the Manor”. This newly released set includes a newly released “silver anniversary” reunion disc which is also available separately for those of you who (like me) own the earlier released set. Chances are the earlier (blue) set will eventually get discontinued, so like series (plural) like Vicar of Dibley and others that have released revised box sets (years after previous releases of the “complete series”), the deal is this: if you have the old set like me, order the separate copy of the silver anniversary disc, if you don’t, then order this set (currently a better price than the older set alone) and you’ll get all the discs together.

One of the Best Britcoms Gets an Anniversary Special5
To the Manor Born is the second best Britcom behind Butterflies. Twenty five years has passed since Audrey and Richard finally tied the knot. This rerelease is the fantastic orignal series plus the new 25th Anniversary Christmas special (which has not been shown in the US!!)

This dvd set contains all 21 episodes from the original 3 series plus the 25th Anniversary hourlong special.

Audrey fforbes-Hamilton’s (Penolope Keith) husband has passed away (but she is really not mourning it). He has left her virtually penniless and she must save her family home (which she is mourning). The manor is sold to a self made foreign millionaire, Richard DeVere (Peter Bowles). While Audrey despises everything Richard stands for but there is definite sexual tension between them. With help of best friend Marjorie (Angela Thorne) and Richard’s mother, Mrs. Poo (Daphhe Heard), Richard and Audrey will find happiness. The series finale ends with two happy endings (I won’t spoil it but it will not surprise you.)

Jump 25 years later, it’s the Dever’s 25th Wedding Anniversary and Audrey is going to celebrate it in style but it is going to take everyone’s effort to save the day and the town.

This is one of the best comedy series ever (British or American). It has witty writing, razor sharp direction and a perfect cast. Penelope Keith has proven to be one of Britan’s great comic geniouses (she has had over half a dozen hit comedies.)

Just buy this set and just plan and laugh alot.

Excellent Set5
If you’re a fan of the show then you must have this dvd set. The transfer quality is excellent. I have one suggestion though…for some reason they put the Christmas special at the end of the dvd set and it really should be watched after the first dvd so it is in sequence with the series.

Amazon.com
To the Manor Born is another BBC sitcom from the genre’s golden age, one that came to dominate the ratings during its initial three-season run from 1979-80. Providing Penelope Keith with her first major role after The Good Life, the show focuses on a way of life that now appears hard to comprehend, with storylines concerning hunt balls, village committees, and eccentric brigadiers only adding to the dated feel. What provided the program’s key interest, however, was not the terribly quaint Little England setting but the burgeoning relationship between Keith’s Audrey fforbes-Hamilton and Richard De Vere (Peter Bowles), the new owner of Audrey’s old home, Grantleigh Manor. It’s all very, very English (the show is set in a village called Cricket St. Thomas) and the continuing use of farce almost creates a sense of parody. But look beyond the infuriating stereotypes and there is some sharp writing going on, predating the city vs countryside debate by nearly two decades. Penelope Keith is, as ever, fantastic value and while new viewers may simply not get the joke, those looking for a spot of nostalgia could do far worse. The 2008 Silver Anniversary Collection includes the complete original series as well as the 2007 Silver Anniversary Special, which fast-forwards 25 years to Audrey and Richard’s plans for their silver-anniversary celebration. –Phil Udell

BEST hand wipes5
I love, love, love these wipes. As an eco-conscious, health-conscious mom I was looking for some hand wipes that were not toxic for the earth or my son and found the cleanwell company and these wipes. I bought them for my toddler son, but use them for everything. Products containing alcohol or other typical sanitizing agents are just not safe (especially for kids who put their hands in their mouths all the time). Plus, you will notice, as I did, that these don’t seem to leave any creepy residue on your hands like other hand sanitizers. At first, since the wipes were pricey I just used them for my son. Then one day at the zoo (where you REALLY need to use hand sanitizer) I used a typical hand gel and started eating my lunch– which tasted like the sanitizer! Yuck! I used one of these wipes and Voila! clean hands with no creepy aftertaste. I have gotten rid of all of my other toxic hand sanitizers. I keep a pocket pack of wipes and a cleanwell spray in the diaper bag at all times. I use the wipes because sometimes the spray doesn’t seem like enough for a toddler’s dirty hands (spray rubbed on dirt makes clean dirt? I prefer to wipe off the dirt). I usually use the spray for myself. I use the wipes to wipe down surfaces as well (like stroller trays, grocery carts, restaurant high chairs, etc.). The active ingredient, ingenium, is also a surface disinfectant (and cleanwell is coming out with surface cleaners soon) so I know it’s safe and works. All the cleanwell products smell great– fresh and herby not perfumey. I can’t say enough good things about these!

Once there, she learns her sister’s horrifying story and discovers that the fatal supernatural curse has been unleashed. Gives Too Little Screen Time To Some Excellent Ideas, But Still A Fine Movie3
Not remotely the same as the Japanese “Ju-On: The Grudge 2″, this movie picks up from the same point (“The Grudge” and “Ju-On” were almost identical anyway) but heads off in a completely different direction, with mostly different characters from “Ju-On 2″ and different concepts. It’s not on par, in my opinion, with “Ju-On 2″ but it is a very good movie in its own right, above both the first “Grudge” and the first “Ju-On” and introducing new ideas that beg for further follow-up.

“The Grudge 2″ follows three paths – Karen Davis’s sister Aubrey (played by Amber Tablyn) journeys to Japan where her sister is hospitilized and ends up drawn into the growing Ju-On curse; two private school idiots trick an insecure classmate into going with them to the vacant Saeki house, where they delight in locking her in a closet – admittedly not believing that the house really is haunted and that their poor prank-victim is about to encounter Kakuro; in an apartment building in the United States, the curse set loose in the first movie has somehow crossed the ocean and begun its hauntings there as well. The three plots end up tied together, but not in the way one might expect.

“The Grudge 2″ has a lot going for it, but it’s also hobbled by some shortcomings – the same thing seems to happen to all the Grudge movies except “Ju-On 2″. Although the good outweighs the bad, the movie is still hampered. One of the faults could conceivably be fixed when the Unrated edition of the DVD is release, assuming it’s extended in length. Probably the most interesting plot idea introduced here – a horrifying angle that looks at Kakuro’s past and explains why she and her son were, of all the people who die violent deaths, the two who ended up transforming into Ju-On ghosts upon their deaths – is given all too brief play in the movie. This angle deserves more, either in a significantly extended cut of “The Grudge 2″ or in a further sequel that makes it one of the main focuses.

Also, and though this happens only briefly, there is a single scene where the generally frightening spirits come off, instead of frightening, as kind of campy; it really put a crick in the movie right when it was building up some tension. Also, you’ve got three seperate plots (four if you count the all too-brief Kakuro backstory) in a one-and-a-half hour movie – it doesn’t need to be extended with a couple of scenes, it needs to be Seriously extended, like at least another thirty minutes. The parts of the movie that didn’t really work were because it kept ‘cutting to the chase’ way too quick instead of developing. A number of characters needed a bit more screen time. Personally, I would have liked for Jenna Dewan’s character (I can’t recall her name) in it longer, and not just because she’s hot (although that’s a part of it. This movie has some really nice-looking female cast members) but also because, gathering by what was on the screen, her character seems to get drawn quite deeply into the whole web of the Ju-On curse, but we see only a brief moment of its results rather than developing this point.

It probably comes off like I’m saying that everything that could go wrong does, but that’s not it. It’s just that we’ve got a really good movie here, but it could have been better – quite a bit better in fact. If there’s more scenes shot, I hope they include them in the extended edition (which apparantly Is going to be quite a bit longer, so that’s a good sign). The theatrical edition alone is good; with some of the angles allowed to play out longer it could be great. Even the theatrical cut ‘as is’ is worth getting though. You may also want to check out ‘Ju-On 2′, for an entirely different story following up the original events.

Dreadful film1
Having watched the original Japanese Grudge 2 I didn’t think it could possibly get worse but nope, the American version even beat that one.

A pointless plot that goes nowhere (The same croaking female ghost with disjointed body movements, the little boy with the large eyes that turns into a cat every now and again and the mad ex hubby thrown in at the end (That is, if you can be bothered to watch that far, personally I was busy tidying up the living room by that time))

For some reason the director of these films seems to think viewers are going to be scared out of their minds by a Japanese woman with large eyes and a hair loss problem which sadly (for him at least) they are not. Not even throwing in a majority American cast (Even though the film is set in Japan) Is going to convince the audience.

Avoid at all costs, there are far better things to be doing with 2 hours of your life.

I thought it was good5
You know I have seen many bad reviews on here about this movie, but I think that it’s just so many people today are just so desensitized, and they have to over analyze every frame. It’s just ugh…. Will it win a Oscar? no. Is it just a good movie that you can sit back and watch with a bowl of popcorn? yes. Get 1 and 2 or rent them and sit back and enjoy a couple of good movies.

I have also seen both of the original japanese movies and they are really good also.

The Grudge 2 is a spooky installment in Takashi Shimizu’s hardworking Ju-on/Grudge series of horror pictures. It doesn’t carry the disorienting thrill of the very first Japanese Ju-on features, but it’s a lot creepier than anybody could have expected. The story picks up from the end of the first Hollywood version of The Grudge, and has nothing to do with Ju-on 2, Shimizu’s Japanese sequel. Sarah Michelle Gellar returns (a distinctly supporting role) as an American woman traumatized by her experiences with a haunted house in Tokyo; younger sister Amber Tamblyn flies over to help out. This particular storyline doesn’t have much meat on it; the murder house is still there, and people who go inside have a disconcerting habit of dropping dead. Fortunately, two other plots thread into the basic one: a group of American schoolgirls in Tokyo become intrigued by the legend of the house, and some Chicago apartment dwellers are unsettled by domestic anxiety and the weird sounds coming from next door. (This storyline, featuring Jennifer Beals, gives the film its extremely satisfying opening sequence.) As usual with these movies, sequences come to us in non-chronological order, and it’s up to us to piece it together. You can guess where the film is going, but the slow trajectory toward its final sequences is surprisingly involving. The movie was widely panned upon its release, which says more about the presumption of the law of diminishing sequel returns than the film itself–it’s a decent little horror flick. –Robert Horton

Customer Reviews:

Decent if unspectacular comedy3
The ubiquitous Seth Rogen stars in yet another comedy, which is fine with me. Unlike a lot of comedies, this one actually delivers laughs. It’s not hysterically funny, and there was less comedy than I would like. But, at least there were some funny bits. “Pineapple Express” suffers the same flaw as most comedies, in that it’s too long. (I didn’t watch the longer director’s cut version, opting instead for the theatrical version.) 90 minutes is the magic number for a comedy; you had better have a good excuse for going over. This film did not. Chopping about 20 minutes out of this would have improved it immensely.

Seth Rogen plays himself, as always, and he’s good at it. James Franco was fantastic, and his Golden Globe nomination was well-deserved. Ed Begley, Jr. got to play a character out of his normal range, and was really the comedic star of this film in the few scenes he was in.

As my wife perceptively noted, we were not the target demographic for this movie. I suspect a younger group would enjoy it more. Nonetheless, it’s a least worth a rent, particularly if you don’t go into it with high expectations.

Will make you sick you laugh so hard5
I think some reviewer’s miss the point. The writer, director, etc. did everything with this movie that they intented to. They wanted to create a funny movie obviously, but they also wanted to make a point. Seth Rogen’s character say’s it best when Franco’s character is offering him a hit and he doesn’t want it, that they are not very functional when they are high and that’s why they have got into so much trouble. The movie is funny, so funny I actually made myself sick to my stomach from laughing so hard.

James Franco has played his best part ever in my opinion, the sweet, sometimes a little clueless Saul. Then, sometimes he pulls it all together and you see a flash of the person through the haze of smoke. Endearing to the last line with a great smile. You think he has no idea of what Seth Rogen’s character think’s about him and then at one point he pull’s out a list of everything Seth’s character has said and not said, proving he’s smarter than he appear’s.

Seth Rogen stands out here as well, helped along by great lines and satiric wit. Don’t even get me started on Red. He’s like a cockroach, he can’t be killed.

My favorite scene would have to be when they are in the wood’s and freaking out over the forest creature’s they think are waiting to get them. It was so hilarious I cried from laughing. But, I won’t spoil it.

Best comedy I’ve seen in years. Recommended.

Funniest Movie I’ve Seen In A Long Time5
Saw this movie in the theater, and it was funny the whole way through. In my opinion, it wasn’t like a normal pot movie, where people that don’t smoke wouldn’t enjoy it, it is funny for pretty much anyone. It’s stupid funny sometimes, dark humor other times, smart and stupid, action and drama (a little bit), but all around hilarious. I laughed so hard I cried, and I felt it for days after–quite the ab workout! Definitely worth the money!

The latest bro-mance from team Apatow (the guys who brought us Superbad, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Pineapple Express is the story of Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) and Saul Silver (James Franco), a pothead and his dealer who accidently get caught up in a drug war between two gangs with some corrupt cops, high-school girls and small-time henchmen thrown in for good measure. At its core, Pineapple Express is a stoner comedy–a tale of two semi-slow giggling and loveable idiots in way over their heads–this formula has made for some entertaining comedy over the years, Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke and Dave Chappell’s Half Baked being two of the best examples. What sets Pineapple Express apart from these silly classics however, is the consistency of the humor, the perfect chemistry between Rogan and Franco and the giddily ridiculous action sequences (and the fact that even mild intoxication is not required to enjoy the humor). The movie retains the sweetness that is present in most of Apatow’s films, making the characters’ poor choices and ultra-violent actions somehow justifiable, or at least relatable. The site gags, pop-culture references and perfectly timed non-sequiturs only enhance the hilarity. Director David Gordon Green, known mostly for the understated and reflective films George Washington and All the Real Girls, seemed like an odd choice for such a raucous and over-the-top comedy, but it turns out Green’s stamp is all over this film (as is his long-time cinematographer, Tim Orr) who together manage to turn Pineapple Express into much more than the sum of its parts. –Kira Canny
